Welcome Centre – Open Day
On March 11, the Rector and the Vice-Rector for Research & International Relations officially opened the Welcome Centre, a unit established at the Department for Research & International Relations dedicated to serving foreigners at Jan Dlugosz University: students, doctoral students and employees. During the inaugural meeting, the employees of the Department made a presentation of the implemented plans, achieved effects and directions of development (attached). The meeting was attended by representatives of foreign students from France, Italy, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Spain and Montenegro, who described their first contacts with the University and the Welcome Centre in warm words. They emphasised the positive significance of the organisational assistance provided to them before their arrival in Poland as part of the Welcome Centre's "Survival Kit" – a "soft landing package". The participants of the meeting could learn about the motivation of students in choosing Poland and JDU. The most frequently mentioned were interest in Polish culture, good reviews from colleagues studying at JDU, fruitful cooperation with researchers from JDU who stayed at a foreign partner university, but also the desire to learn or improve the Polish language resulting from having Polish roots.
The cost of the renovation and furnishing of the room was covered by the university's funds. The employee's full-time position at the Welcome Centre is financed from funds granted by the National Agency for Academic Exchange as part of the Welcome to Poland project (contract no. PPI/WTP/2022/1/00028/U/00001). UJD received PLN 399,737.32 for the implementation of activities related to the internationalisation of the university in the period from 1.06.2023 to 31.05.2025. So far, as part of the JDU4U promotional and information campaign, our employees have presented the educational and scientific offer of JDU at educational fairs in Rotterdam and Chicago, and for the needs of acclimatization of foreigners at JDU, a Welcome Guide and practical gifts have been prepared. Work is underway on the implementation of a virtual tour of the JDU in English and signage of buildings and rooms in English.
The main tasks of the Welcome Centre are to help foreigners in the following matters:
