PLAYING WITH CONVENTION – NEW EXHIBITION AT JDU LIBRARY
Internet memes are carriers of ideas, ideas that were born in the author's mind under the influence of various observations and experiences. These digital cultural texts can take any form – but most often they are clear graphics or photographs with catchy slogans that match them. The dominance of image over text does not prove the primitiveness of the message, on the contrary – it properly communicates the emotional experiences of the individual, which often makes the Internet meme vox populi.
The collection of representative memes inspired by Bolesław Prus's realistic novel „Lalka” ("The Doll") presented at the exhibition is distinguished by its attractive form, method of communication and ease of impact. It is these features that make the protagonists of the aforementioned work (Stanisław Wokulski, Izabela Łęcka, Ignacy Rzecki...) come to life anew, in a different reality, space, often contemporary. Thanks to likes and shares, literary texts of culture spread quickly, which makes them a specific form of communication in new media.
Memes as content carriers thus become a source of creative entertainment and could easily be used in educational practice. They are not only the basis for new phraseological compounds, but also contribute to the spread of winged words.
