INAUGURATION OF "ART AT THE UNIVERSITY" SERIES – UNIQUE COMBINATION OF MUSIC, POETRY & VISUAL ART

The inaugural artistic event of the "Art at the University" series was a true celebration of art, in which music, poetry and visual arts formed a harmonious whole. The project was initiated and coordinated by Professor Barbara Karaśkiewicz, Head of the Department of Music of JDU. It showed the professionalism and interdisciplinary artistic cooperation of both experienced masters and the fresh energy of younger artists, employees, doctoral students and students of the Department of Music, the Department of Painting and the Faculty of Science and Technology.
Right after the official opening of the event, there was a presentation of a new, unique piano of  the "Fazioli" brand  , purchased in recent months for the needs of the Department of Music of JDU. The instrument was located in the central point of the stage – it was solemnly "unwrapped" by prof. Anna Wypych-Gawrońska (Rector of the 2016-2024 term), and then prof. Janusz Kapuśniak, Rector of JDU, officially opened it, which was met with applause from the audience.
The musical part of the event was filled with concerts on the piano for two, four and six hands performed by artists of the Department of Music of JDU: dr Ludomira Grądman, dr Maciej Zagórski, prof. Robert Gawroński, prof. Jakub Brawata, prof. Barbara Karaśkiewicz, Ludmyla Kosterecka, MA, dr Korneliusz Wiatr, Mikołaj Borkowski, MA, Paweł Albiński, MA,  Mikołaj Ferenc, MA, Olga Wovkotrub, MA. There was also a special guest - prof. Cezary Sanecki (Rector of the Grażyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz Academy of Music in Łódź in 2012-2020).
The academics of the Department of Painting: prof. Bartosz Frączek, prof. Justyna Warwas, prof. Mateusz Pawełczyk, prof. Artur Wawrzkiewicz, created multimedia projections that were displayed in the background during the pianists' performances, giving depth and introducing the audience to the magical, multidimensional world of art. The whole performance was graced by a special visual setting prepared by prof. Marcin Zastawnik and students  of multimedia engineering (Faculty of Science and Technology).
In addition to the piano performances, the audience had the opportunity to listen to poetry recited by actor Antoni Rot. Recitations, fragments of such well-known composers as Gałczyński, Rilke, and Brzechwa, were intertwined with works by great composers: W.A. Mozart, R. Schuman, F. Chopin, J. S. Bach, and M. Ravel.
At the end of the evening, all the artists went on stage to thank the audience for their presence and warm welcome. The Rector of JDU, prof. Janusz Kapuśniak, expressed his appreciation for their creativity, talents and joint work, which contributed to the creation of the event at the highest artistic level. He thanked the whole team for their commitment, whose efforts made the evening remain in the memory of all present for a long time.
The culmination of the ceremony was the presentation of flowers and congratulations to the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, prof. Ewa Grabowska-Lis, who on the same day received the title of professor from the President of the Republic of Poland during a ceremony in the Presidential Palace. On behalf of the entire academic community, the Rector expressed his appreciation for her outstanding achievements and contribution to the development of our University.

The concert took place on November 6, 2024 in Aula Magna of the Faculty of Science and Technology of JDU (Armii Krajowej 13/15). We congratulate all the creators on organising the event. We are waiting for the next edition of artistic achievements and we invite all to watch the photo report!
