VOLUNTEER WOMEN'S LEGION – ON 105. ANNIVERSARY OF BATTLE OF WARSAW
All is invited to an extraordinary exhibition devoted to one of the most inspiring formations in the history of Poland – the Volunteer Women's Legion. On the occasion of the 105th anniversary of the Battle of Warsaw, we want to present the history and heritage of this brave women's formation, which played an important role in the Polish-Bolshevik war.
The exhibition presents in detail the beginnings of the Volunteer Women's Legion, focusing on its first branch in Lviv, which became a pioneering step towards the involvement of women in warfare. You will see how successive Branches were formed in different parts of Poland and how their members, full of determination, faced difficulties in order to defend their homeland in times of crisis.
The central point of the exhibition is the presentation of the participation of these women in the decisive Battle of Warsaw, the echo of which resonates to this day in Polish history. Through the prism of the biographies of the most important members of the Volunteer Women’s Legion, you will look at their personal stories, the challenges they faced, and their steadfast determination in the fight for freedom.
The exhibition also shows the establishment of two organisations that came out of the ranks of the Volunteer Women's Legion – the Association of Polish Legionnaires and the Military Training of Women for the Defense of the Country. Thanks to this, visitors will be able to understand their importance in shaping the social and political roles of women in Poland at that time.
Various collections and archival photographs, as well as accounts of participants and press clippings will allow visitors to feel part of this extraordinary history. Together, let's commemorate the women who were not afraid to fight for freedom and national dignity. We encourage you to take part in this event, which aims not only at reminding us of their merits, but also at inspiring future generations.
