PROFESSOR ANDRZEJ JAN ZAKRZEWSKI HAS PASSED AWAY

We are saddened to announce that on February 15, 2025, prof. Andrzej Jan Zakrzewski passed away.  Professor was a long-time employee of our University, Vice-Rector, Dean, Vice-Dean, Head of the Institute and Head of the Department of Modern History, an outstanding scientist specialsing in research on the history of Polish culture, the history of the Częstochowa region, the role of the Republic of Poland and Ukraine in the eastern policy of France from the mid-seventeenth to the end of the eighteenth century, the attitude of French public opinion to the problems of the Republic of Poland and Ukraine, as well as Polish-Ukrainian relations in the context of the unification of Europe; author of over 200 scientific publications, supervisor of five doctoral dissertations, winner of the Karol Miarka Award and doctor honoris causa of our University.

Prof. Andrzej Jan Zakrzewski was also an outstanding organiser and promoter of science, president of the Częstochowa branch of the Polish Historical Society, member of the Historical Commission of the Katowice branch of the Polish Academy of Sciences, co-founder of the Polish Society for Research on the Eighteenth Century, member of the Foundation Voltaire in London and Sociéte Voltaire in Ferney-Voltaire in France, scientific secretary of the Częstochowa Scientific Society and editor-in-chief of "Ziemia" Częstochowa".  

The Authorities of the University and the Faculty of Humanities of Jan Dlugosz University in Czestochowa, as well as the Employees and Colleagues express their deep sympathy and sorrow to the Professor's family, loved ones and friends.
