SUBSIDY OF NEARLY PLN 6.6 MILLION FOR CONSTRUCTION OF LAB FOR AI USE IN DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING
Jan Dlugosz University in Czestochowa has received a grant from the European Union for the project "Construction of the Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence Applications in Diagnostic Imaging".
The subject of the project is the creation of the Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence Applications in Diagnostic Imaging. Its creation will involve the reconstruction and adaptation of the laboratory in order to adapt the existing rooms for the installation of new equipment and scientific and research equipment, i.e. a medical computed tomography, high-computing equipment for the artificial intelligence laboratory, X-ray irradiation and radioluminescence test stations, a thermoluminescent reader and gamma spectrometry stations.
As part of the project, it is planned to establish cooperation with hospitals from the Częstochowa region in order to obtain data for training databases for artificial intelligence algorithms. Such cooperation will allow us to acquire partners ready to implement the solutions developed under the project. The infrastructure can be used for the implementation of projects aimed at early detection of cancer diseases in the Częstochowa region.
The aim will be to increase the quality of life and awareness of the society living in the northern part of the subregion of the Silesian Voivodeship in the field of health prevention and thus obtain data for the verification of emerging artificial intelligence algorithms. The planned infrastructure will be the basis for the implementation of other R+D works in the field of developing artificial intelligence methods in diagnostic imaging and materials engineering, dosimetry and radiological protection. These works will also be carried out for the benefit of entrepreneurs, including those from the region.
The project will result in the creation of new laboratories, fully equipped, increasing cooperation with national research centres, creating a better environment for patent applications and creating a network for the transfer of knowledge to the economic sector. Other results are also important: the increase in the importance of the University, the emergence of new links between science and the economy, solving technological problems, and an increase in the number of enterprises cooperating with JDU.
The project is led by dr Kordian Chamerski from the Faculty of Science and Technology.
The project will be implemented in the period from 02.09.2024 to 30.11.2026.
The total cost of the project: PLN 7,916,263.61, including EU project co-financing: PLN 6,581,383.88
