CONSTRUCTION OF CENTRE FOR RESEARCH ON HUMAN METABOLISM AND PREVENTION OF METABOLIC DISEASES
UNIVERSITY RECEIVES NEARLY PLN 6.9 MILLION FOR
Jan Dlugosz University in Czestochowa has received a grant from the European Union for the project "The Centre for Research on Human Metabolism and Prevention of Metabolic Diseases".
This will involve the reconstruction and adaptation of the laboratory in order to adapt the existing rooms for the installation of new equipment and scientific and research equipment, i.e. a dynamic model simulating the behaviour of the microbiota in the human gastrointestinal tract, a matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization spectrometer with a tandem time-of-flight analyzer (MALDI TOFTOF) and a liquid chromatograph with a triple quadrupole mass detector and ionization by electrospraying and a universal light scattering detector or another with similar analytical capabilities.
The scientific research carried out at the Centre for Research on Human Metabolism and Prevention of Metabolic Diseases will be aimed at developing specific issues potentially applicable in the food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic and medical industries and solving specific problems of entrepreneurs. The results of research on individual projects carried out within the Centre will be able to be made public and available to interested business entities and other research and development centres in Poland and abroad.
The infrastructure provided under the CBMCziPChM will allow for the development of methods and solutions for early diagnosis and prevention of metabolic diseases through the development of models based on the analysis of the metabolome and metagenome of sick and healthy people from the local population. CBMCziPChM will provide the ability to find the causes of nutrient deficiencies arising in disease entities, and thus contribute to the correct model of active aging.
The result of the project will be the creation of new laboratories, with the provision of necessary equipment, increasing cooperation with domestic and foreign research centres, creating a better environment for the creation of patent applications and the creation of a knowledge transfer network to the economic sector. Other results are also important: the increase in the importance of the University, the emergence of new links between science and the economy, and the solution of technological problems. The investment will enable wider cooperation with the business sector, especially with manufacturers of food, dietary supplements, pharmaceuticals, food additives (e.g. enzymes), breweries, distilleries, commercial research laboratories.
The project is led by prof. Renata Barczyńska-Felusiak.
The project will be implemented from 01.10.2024 to 30.09.2026.
The total cost of the project: PLN 8,389,815.23, including co-financing of the EU project: PLN 6,892,414.93
