“Without barriers – the situation of people with disabilities” – invitation to international conference
To all academic community,
On behalf of the Organising Committee, I would like to kindly invite you to take part in the International Scientific Conference "Without barriers - the situation of people with disabilities" organised by the Interdisciplinary Research Centre. The event will take place on April 17, 2024, at 1:00 pm in the HUMANITATIS Auditorium at the Faculty of Humanities, Jan Dlugosz University in Czestochowa, at AK 36a.
The aim of the Conference is a multifaceted analysis of the challenges and problems faced by people with disabilities. During the event, various aspects of disability, social systems and practices that construct disability will be discussed, defining at the same time the disadvantageous situation experienced by people with disabilities or people deviating from the norm of "fitness" in terms of functionality - physical, sensory, cognitive, neurological.
Therefore, in the opinion of the Organisers, the raised issue becomes a separate and dynamic field of action at the level, not only national, but also international and European. Above all, however, it becomes a platform for interdisciplinary reflection on changes in the area of social approach to disability, which is often understood as a process in which social structures and systems cause discrimination, exclusion and marginalisation of people with disabilities.
Bearing in mind that people with motor, sensory or intellectual disabilities usually do not have the opportunity to fully participate in social life on an equal level with non-disabled people, in order to minimise the existing barriers of a physical, social, educational and, above all, cultural nature, the event will be inaugurated with a short concert entitled "Life Processes".
We hope that the cooperation initiated with 8 European universities, as part of the EU programme entitled European Universities, as well as representatives of various communities dealing with disability issues, will create a unique space for the exchange of views and will become a contribution to reflection and further debate on disability.
