First meeting of Rector-elect prof. Janusz Kapuśniak with press

The Rector of Jan Dlugosz University, prof. Anna Wypych-Gawrońska, and the Rector-elect, prof. Janusz Kapuśniak, met with journalists (April 25, 2024). The aim of the meeting was to present the vision of the Rector-elect, prof. Kapuśniak, who presented to the media representatives his plans for the development of the University for the period of his term of office, the years 2024-2028.

Among the announcements, the issue of internationalisation of the University came to the fore, especially the interest of new students and doctoral students in studying in Częstochowa. Prof. Kapuśniak pointed out that his calculations show that the degree of internationalisation among students at Jan Dlugosz University is about 6 percent. He announced that he would aim for a result of 10 percent! This is to be achieved by encouraging young people from other countries of Eastern and Western Europe, but also from Asian countries. He mentioned India among these countries, claiming that he is already in talks with representatives of relevant institutions and academic centres on this issue.

"I hope that thanks to this we will be able to attract new students and PhD students to study here, which will not only give the University new students, but also additional funds, including prestige and publicity," explains prof. Janusz Kapuśniak. "Recently, we have recorded numerous successes and gained a lot of prestige. This is evidenced by the fact that it has obtained the status of a European University, that it has collaborated with partners from all over Europe within the framework of the COLOURS project, and that it has become a member of the European University Association. This should result in even greater interest in the didactic offer among foreigners. The Professor has a similar plan when it comes to cooperation with entrepreneurs. Here, too, he sees mutual and broad benefits that the University can obtain in the form of influences, but also the accompanying increase in prestige due to implementations and commercially commissioned research!

A large part of the meeting was devoted to discussing matters related to investments. The Rector-elect emphasised that the University must provide itself with optimal facilities for conducting research, teaching, as well as cooperation with the environment, especially in terms of the development of medical and health sciences faculties. Hence, he announced activities related to the modernisation of the facility located at Okólna Street, which the University bought a few months ago. The list of tasks also includes the construction of the Didactic Centre for Medical and Health Sciences at Chłopickiego Street. The launch of the University Teaching Hospital is also an important project. Professor Kapuśniak emphasized the importance of the last two tasks. However, he drew attention to the costs and the enormity of the commitment required to implement them. He explained that both tasks require considerable expenditures, e.g. in the case of the plan to build the Centre at 3 Chłopickiego Street, as much as PLN 90 million. Hence, it is necessary to obtain support from local governments (local and provincial level), as well as the ministries of education, science and health.

Professor Kapuśniak announced broad and multi-level actions to continue the process of the University's development. This concerns staff, new areas of research, or a modern offer addressed to young people, such as the development of start-ups.

Prof. Janusz Kapuśniak will begin his term as Rector on September 1, 2024.
