JDU WELCOME CENTRE AT EURAXESS BIENNIAL CONFERENCE
On June 10-12 in Katowice, during the biennial conference, the EURAXESS network celebrated its 20th anniversary. The aim of the international event, which brought together 200 representatives from 43 countries, was to strengthen the cohesion of the network, to make its achievements visible and to further discuss how to increase the attractiveness of the research profession and scientific career on the international stage.
The network currently includes 43 European representatives (Member States and Associates) with more than 630 related service centres, offering tailor-made information on 18 support topics (visa, pension, taxation, etc.) and 9 international offices operating in different regions of the world.
Such a network of people is supported by the online dimension, with a central European portal (also serving dedicated websites worldwide) and 43 complementary national portals. As of January 2024, the European EURAXESS portal counts more than 14,000 registered organisations, more than 110,000 researchers active on the platform, and an average of 62,000+ jobs, funding and hosting opportunities published each year.
Each edition of the conference develops around a specific topic selected by the European Commission together with the national representatives of EURAXESS – the NAWA agency and the host city. In 2024, these included the celebration of the 20th anniversary of EURAXESS, the launch of the revamped EURAXESS website and the launch of the ERA TALENT PLATFORM. During the three days of the event, 2 plenary sessions and 16 workshops were held on, among others: Counteracting uncertainty - researchers' career framework and pathways to access to employment; Navigating the world of researchers: challenges and good practices in mobility; Differences in intercultural communication and ways of managing them; Strategy and enhanced cooperation between Euraxess and Euraxess worldwide.
It is worth recalling that the participation of the JDU Welcome Centre in the Conference was a prize for taking fourth out of five places awarded to Poland by the organiser of the meeting, the European Commission.
