EXHIBITION MARKING 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF POLAND IN EU
From October 1, 2024, an exhibition entitled "20 years of Poland in the European Union", which accompanies the project "Celebrating the 20th anniversary of Poland in the European Union" will be available to the public in the building of Jan Dlugosz University Library in Czestochowa (Armii Krajowej 36a).
According to the organisers, the overriding goal of the exhibition is to commemorate a momentous event in the history of our country, which was the accession of Poland to the structures of the European Union. It is also a desire to bring this issue closer to the university community, but also to all other people who will come to the exhibition. Another idea is to promote community values.
The exhibition is divided into several parts. In one of them, a dozen or so boards are presented, on which one can trace the path of Poland to the EU structures. They recall the most important events from the long calendar of Polish diplomacy's efforts that led to unity with the community. They present the profiles of politicians, but also specific events, such as the Athens summit, during which the leaders of 25 countries (including Poland) signed the treaty on the enlargement of the European Union in April 2003, or another fact - cutting the border barrier at the Polish-Slovak border crossing at Łysa Polana, on the night of 30 April to 1 May 2004. A calendar is presented – the boards show the history of the EU's enlargement, as well as allow the visitor to trace Poland's path to accession in an interesting graphic way.
The following boards contain material documenting the changes that have taken place in Poland after joining the EU, and would not have been possible without the involvement of funds from the community's coffers. Among them, one can find photos showing the effects of the reconstruction of the roundabout at Buforowa St. in Wrocław, the revitalisation of the Mill Island in Bydgoszcz or the building of the Polish Baltic Philharmonic named after Fryderyk Chopin in Gdańsk.
The exhibition is complemented by publications collected in showcases – magazines and books that fit into the theme of the exhibition.
The exhibition has been prepared by the staff of the University Library: dr Joanna Bochaczek-Trąbska (curator of the exhibition), dr Agnieszka Jastrzębska and mgr Barbara Grzywińska.
The project is implemented by Jan Dlugosz University in Czestochowa and is financed by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Admission to the exhibition is free of charge and possible during the Library's working hours. Viewers can visit it until October 15, 2024.
