JDU SENATE HOLDS SOLEMN SESSION IN CZESTOCHOWA CITY HALL

It has not happened so far in the history of Jan Dlugosz University in Czestochowa that members of the Senate deliberated outside the University premises – this is according to the accounts of the most experienced staff. Hence, it can be said that the first such a meeting took place on October 30, 2024 in the Session Hall of the Częstochowa City Hall. The initiator of convening the meeting was the Rector of JDU prof. Janusz Kapuśniak, who submitted the initiative to the Mayor of Częstochowa, Krzysztof Matyjaszczyk.
- I would like one meeting of the University Senate in the academic year to be held in the Session Hall of the City Hall - explains Prof. Janusz Kapuśniak. - I propose that one meeting of the City Council per year should be held in our Senate Hall. Initially, this proposal was accepted by the Chairman of the City Council, Mr. Łukasz Banaś. I am counting on a return visit.
The meeting began with an exchange of greetings. The Mayor of Częstochowa Krzysztof Matyjaszczyk addressed the Senators in a cordial way.
- Jan Dlugosz University is one of the most important higher education institutions in Częstochowa and I am glad that we are hosting the Senate in the Session Hall of the City Hall in Częstochowa – emphasizes Krzysztof Matyjaszczyk. "In recent years, we have jointly implemented numerous projects and I hope that in the future we will achieve success in further projects. One of the current proposals is the creation of a clinical facility on the basis of municipal hospitals, which will serve to educate future doctors, but also provide patients with high-quality medical services. I hope that the University Senate will soon consider this project and make the right decision.
- Cooperation with the city is based on two words: "openness" and "presence" - explains the Rector of JDU, prof. Janusz Kapuśniak. "Presence" and "visibility" at the same time should be and are signaled in the city and the region. We try to show that the University is accessible to all residents of Częstochowa and the region and that we offer candidates and partners learning and cooperation with a strong academic centre. The same is true of "openness". Therefore, every proposal from the city authorities will be thoroughly considered by the Senate. This will also happen in the case of the proposal to create a university hospital based on the base offered by the city. We must provide our students with a high quality of education.

Prof. Janusz Kapuśniak gave a presentation showing the activities of the City for the development of the University. We are talking about a jointly implemented project called "Academic Częstochowa". The idea is that the City transfers a certain amount of money every year, for which the University makes investments. As a result, for example, modern equipment is provided to university laboratories, which significantly improves the level of classes conducted. Such cooperation has been taking place since 2018. Meanwhile, as part of the action of the same name (since 2015), the Mayor of Częstochowa (or deputies appointed by him) visit Częstochowa high schools with representatives of the University. Together, they convince people to study at the University. The benefits are mutual – young people stay in Częstochowa and join the ranks of students and doctoral students of Jan Dlugosz University. Further on, the Rector focused on presenting other areas of cooperation between institutions managed by the City and utilised by JDU staff, students and doctoral students. It concerns, among others, such areas as: culture, education, sport. One can risk saying that the cooperation has been taking place practically from the beginning of the existence of the University in Częstochowa. The initiative proposed by the Rector, prof. Janusz Kapuśniak, is not only part of this process, but also opens another new chapter, which further unites the City with the University in the work of building a strong academic centre.
